All about Bridal Styling –
The Guideline for every Bride
For most women, the wedding day is one of the most beautiful and important days in their lives. On this special day, you want to set the scene with the right make-up. The bridal styling should be natural and true to type, so that every woman can remain herself and still look authentic. Every bride therefore asks herself many questions about her make-up and hairstyle before her wedding.
To answer these questions, Marta Krzyżak, make-up artist, has created this guide to help every bride prepare for her big day with bridal styling.

11. Tips for the perfect glow on the wedding day
1. What does the trial appointment look like and how should the bride prepare for it?
To ensure that everything runs smoothly on the wedding day, a rehearsal appointment is extremely important. On this day, the preliminary talk takes place and all the important details are clarified.
It is important for the make-up artist to know what the wedding dress, jewellery and the bridal bouquet look like in order to perfectly coordinate the styling.
The bride should already have an idea of her make-up and hairstyle at the trial appointment and possibly have looked for examples on the internet. Sometimes it is the case that the idea does not match the bride’s type 100% – this is the make-up artist’s task to adjust the hairstyle and make-up.
The hair should be washed the day before the rehearsal appointment (preferably without using conditioner, as this makes it easier to pin the hair). You should come to the appointment without make-up and lotion – this will save you time.
The make-up artist will also give you tips on skin care on this day. It is helpful to moisturise the face a few weeks before the appointment so that the make-up looks perfect on the wedding day. Preparing the skin of the face for the wedding day is very important.
You should contact a make-up artist at least 6 months before the wedding in order to secure your wedding date in good time. A trial appointment, on the other hand, should ideally take place 6 to 8 weeks before the wedding.
2. Where does the bridal styling take place?
Depending on the client’s wishes, the styling can take place at her home or at the wedding location. The trial appointment can also take place at the desired location, depending on the arrangement.
However, travel costs will be added in both cases.
3. What should a wedding make-up look like?
In principle, any look as unusual as this should be done at the bride’s request. Not every woman is the same and some brides want to express their unique style at the wedding.
However, there is a typical idea of what wedding make-up should look like. First and foremost, it should be neutral colours. Neutral colours include brown, grey, beige and rosé tones.
A bridal make-up should cover all blemishes and imperfections – yet it should not look like a mask. A bride can never go wrong with a subtle make-up, because a light make-up always underlines the natural beauty of a woman.
Foundation
There are 3 skin tones: reddish, yellowish and olive. The best way to recognise the tone is when you are tanned. The colour of the foundation should be perfectly adapted to your own skin tone. This is achieved by applying a little foundation to the transition between the face and neck. The colour should be matched to the neck. To achieve the perfect result, it is sometimes necessary to mix different shades.
It is also important to consider the bride’s skin type. There are two main types: dry/mature and oily. For the first skin type, you should refrain from using very mattifying foundations, because with both dry and mature skin, the foundation can settle in the wrinkles and thus emphasise them even more unintentionally. For this reason, it’s better to use light foundations and creamy products that can still be opaque. You should also be careful with the amount of powder you use.
For oily skin, mattifying foundations and a little more powder are preferred, especially on the so-called T-zone. This way, the make-up lasts all day.
If you want to look good in front of the camera, you should make sure that you use HD foundation when applying your make-up, which was specially developed for this purpose so that the make-up does not look mask-like but natural on high-definition cameras.
Eyes
The bride’s eyes should be made up according to her type. There are many instructions on the internet on how to make up eyes. Here, however, I have compiled the most important rules that should be observed when applying eye make-up.
For example, if your eyes are a little farther apart, you should correct this visually by applying eyeliner to the inner corner of your eyes. The opposite is true if the eyes are too close together. In this case, you should only apply eyeliner to the outer part of the eye.
Small eyes are visually enlarged by applying a darker eye shadow to the so-called “crease” and a light, shimmering eye shadow to the lid itself. The shape of the eyeliner can also make an eye look bigger. If you have small eyes, make sure you use a white or nude-coloured eyeliner on the lower waterline instead of a dark one.
The colour of the eye shadow should harmonise with the eye colour. As a rule, you should use complementary colours to bring out the colour of your eyes. For blue eyes, for example, golden or brown tones are advantageous. For green eyes, rosé tones are suitable and for brown eyes, silver or grey tones could be used. However, since all these colours are neutral and should also match the colour of the dress, bouquet and jewellery, the make-up is usually not only matched to the eye colour. To make the eye shadow last all day, it is important to apply an eye shadow base underneath.
The eyebrows should be shaped a few days before the wedding, e.g. with wax. On the wedding day, however, waxing should be avoided as it can cause irritation to the skin, which can be visible on the day. If the eyebrows are not corrected on the wedding day, the make-up artist will use a razor. However, the eyebrows should retain their natural shape as far as possible. Only the free areas are filled in with make-up. It should be noted that the beginning of the eyebrow should be lighter and more lightly made up than the rest.
Lips
Brides look particularly beautiful in nude or pink lipsticks. Lighter shades also make the lips look a little bigger, which is the trend these days. Lip gloss also has a magnifying effect.
If you have smaller lips, you should avoid bold and dark shades on your lips.
An important point is also the durability of a lipstick. Matte lipsticks last longer than creamy lipsticks. In both cases, you should have the appropriate lipstick with you at the wedding to be able to correct the lips in case of an emergency.
Some make-up artists give a sample of the lipstick as a gift for the brides.
Countoré and blush
Last but not least, we come to contouré and blush. Both give the face the desired shape. Contouré can be used to highlight areas of the face with lighter colours, but darker ones can be used to set them back. In this way, you can give the entire face the perfect oval shape.
Rouge also plays an important role here. Depending on where it is applied, it lengthens or shortens the face. The higher and more vertical it is applied, the longer the face will look. If your face is already long, you should apply the blusher horizontally and a little lower. Rouge also gives freshness, which automatically makes you look younger.
4. What should the bride always have on hand on the wedding day?
Lipstick
The lips need to be corrected the most often. Unfortunately, no lipstick lasts all day (especially at a wedding where you’re also eating), so it’s important to always have the right lipstick and lip liner on hand to touch up in case of emergency.
Powder
If you have an oily skin type, you should always have powder in the right colour with you. Transparent powder is also good, but be careful not to use too much, as it can stain photos.
Blotting paper
Blotting paper is an alternative to powder. It is a type of paper that can be applied to shiny areas of the face to absorb unwanted sebum. However, it should be noted that some makeup product is always taken out with it.
Eyelash glue
If you have used false eyelashes in your make-up, it is always a good idea to have some eyelash glue with you. Especially if whole bands of eyelashes were used, it is possible that one end will fall off during the day. In such a case, you will be glad if you remembered to take a glue with you.
5.What is the procedure of a bridal styling?
A bridal styling should be scheduled for at least 2 hours. Trial appointments can even last 3 hours or longer.
Usually the hair is the first step, as the hair needs to be prepared, e.g. by using heating rollers, which need to cool down during the make-up time. Next, the make-up is done and then the bride gets changed.
6. Styling of wedding guests
The make-up artist who styles you is also happy to style your maid of honour, bridesmaids and flower girls. Please allow half an hour to an hour for each styling. By the way, this is also a nice gift for guests. Such a styling usually costs no more than 80€.
7. Styling of the groom
The groom also wants to be perfectly styled on his wedding day. Nowadays, it is no longer unusual for men to be given a little help when it comes to their appearance. This includes beard or eyebrow thickening, covering dark circles, powdering and hair styling. This also makes the groom look perfect in every photo or video.
The styling should not take longer than half an hour and the price should not be higher than 40-50€.
8. Is the stylist also present during the wedding?
If you as a bride always want to look fresh on your wedding day, the stylist is usually also available for this. This is an additional service that you can also make use of.
9. How much does a bridal styling cost?
This depends on the region. In big cities the prices go up to 150€ plus costs for the trial appointment, which can be a bit cheaper. In villages and small towns, prices start at 70€. Prices also vary depending on the provider.
The costs for a bridal hairstyle are at a similar price level. However, any underpinnings, braids or accessories are charged separately.
You should bear in mind that the make-up artist’s travel costs are also included – in most cases these are around 0.50€/km. Some make-up artists charge an additional 10-20€ if they have to arrive at the styling location before 7 or 6 am.
10. Styling at the After Wedding Shooting
Every stylist is also happy to take care of the After Wedding Shooting. In this case it is even an advantage if she is present at the shooting in case something needs to be touched up or corrected. With professional cameras you can see every detail.
11. Tips for the perfect glow on your wedding day
In order for your skin to glow on your wedding day, it is important to start eating healthy and drinking plenty of water weeks before. The stress factor also plays a big role.
You should have planned everything well a week before so that you can only look forward to the big day. Directly before the wedding, it is not advisable to have any facial treatments that you have not yet had experience with. Instead, it is advisable to invest in good moisturising facial cosmetics that prepare the skin perfectly for the wedding day.
